Judges 7:19-23 19 So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outskirts of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, when they had just set the watch. And they blew the trumpets and smashed the jars that were in their hands. 20 Then the three companies blew the trumpets and broke the jars. They held in their left hands the torches, and in their right hands the trumpets to blow. And they cried out, ―A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!‖ 21 Every man stood in his place around the camp, and all the army ran. They cried out and fled. 22 When they blew the 300 trumpets, the LORD set every man’s sword against his comrade and against all the army. And the army fled as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah,[a] as far as the border of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath.23 And the men of Israel were called out from Naphtali and from Asher and from all Manasseh, and they pursued after Midian.
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age,[c]against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— 19 and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
1. Stand – To be situated in a particular place or position.
2. Position – A place where someone or something is located or has been put.
I. Introduction It was God who called Gideon and gave him instructions on what to do. The task was humanly impossible. God wants it done in his own way. The battle belongs to him. This was warfare and positioning is imperative. Being in the wrong position is dangerous because you can be killed causing your Army to lose. Positioning is one of the key strategies used in warfare.
II. Characteristics of the Army of Gideon (Prerequisites to Standing in their Position)
Volunteer (6:35; 7:3)
Obedient (7:22) We should have the same characteristics in the Kingdom of God. Most of us are not, and that is why we lose in the battle.
When we know our calling, we should be careful to do it. Volunteer and not let God force us into it.
We should be aware and alert of what we are involved in. It is warfare. That is important to realize.
We should be well equipped. See next section.
We should obey the instructions of the Lord. We are not called to accomplish the task in our own human ability but allow God to work through us. The battle belongs to him, and he wants to be glorified by all we do.
III. Aspects of our Standing
1. In Spiritual Warfare (Ephesians 6). We are involved in spiritual warfare every day. We are to stand having put on the whole Armor of God 1. So that we will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil and 2. Withstand in the evil day
B. In the Service of the Lord. This is our calling. Each one of us has been created with a divine purpose. No one can take your place. You need to know your divine purpose and strive to accomplish it. The primary goal of man should be to fit in God’s perfect plan (Jeremiah 29:11). IV. The Armor of God
A. The helmet of Salvation
B. Breastplate of Righteousness
C. Belt of Truth
D. Shield of Faith
E. Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God
F. Shoes of the Preparation of the Gospel of Peace
V. Other Weapons of Spiritual Warfare
A. Prayer (Use examples in the Bible).
B. Praise and Worship (Use examples in the Bible).
VI. Conclusion – Stand in your Position. For you to be able to do that, you must first be able to know your position. First, know that you are involved in Spiritual Warfare, and the battle belongs to God. Second, know your calling. This is the divine purpose why you exist. The battle can only be won when we all stand in our positions.
